Tuina Massage

Tuina is one of the five main disciplines in the arsenal of Chinese medicine practitioner. However, at least in "western" countries it is hidden in a shadow of acupuncture and Chinese herbology. Even the Chinese exercise qigong has a greater reach, and dietetics often serves as an example for educators and influencers of Chinese medicine since it is the most imaginable to the general public - everybody has to eat.

The encyclopedia would say that Tuina is the study and practice of a collection of manual techniques based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, which are used to prevent and treat disease. Literally, Tuina is a combination of two words: tui and na. They are the names of two of the many techniques, the meaning of which is “to push” and “to grasp”. Historically, Tuina has separated from the generic regenerative massages anmo (here the meaning is “to push” and “to rub”, or simply “massage”) as a special branch more focused on fighting disease.

Why choose massage?

It is a very safe method, the entire therapy takes place externally, on the surface (with some exceptions, it is performed through clothing). Nothing is injected into the body, not even needles or any substances. Herbs, although they are all natural, can also be harmful if the client is diagnosed incorrectly. In the case of acupuncture, inappropriate points can be chosen and the effect will not be achieved. In the case of Tuina you will have an hour of relaxation and a really good massage, in the worst case scenario.

Tuina is suitable for absolutely everyone. Acupuncture is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Chinese medicine. Needles are not for everyone for various reasons. First of all, you may be afraid, and that's perfectly fine (for this reason, I chose Chinese massage as my primary discipline). Secondly, you may have an unsuitable constitution - Tuina is suitable for weakened people, the elderly and pediatric Tuina is even considered as a separate branch of Tuina.

Just like Chinese medicine as a whole Tuina is primarily a preventive matter. However, it can also target all types of diseases, both external and internal. Tuina is suitable for headaches, joint pain, back pain, fatigue, digestive problems such as constipation and diarrhea, flatulence, boosting immunity, insomnia, stress, balancing emotional fluctuations such as fear, anxiety, and much more.

If I had to highlight one thing, Tuina is very effective against any pain.
